KEYS TO LONG COURSE SUCCESS

  • Practice in the wetsuit a lot to get very comfortable with it. Know where to put bodyglide, how much to pull it up and always warm up well with it

  • Goggles go under straps

  • Whatever position your bike is in now, Keep It, do not go changing anything on the bike. You have been putting long good miles on it so don’t get excited and change it. I see people make this mistake all the time, Please don’t be a statistic.

  • Write out your NHS plan. Stick with it but be ready to adapt it if it is cooler or hotter.

  • Always have back ups of back ups. Stick a small bag of e caps under seat in case you drop yours. Put a swab of Vaseline under seat in case you need it.

  • Make sure bike is in good working order. No new tires in the week before, get a hundred miles or so on them pre race

  • What is your mantra to motivate you???

  • Make sure all bolts are not corroded and are tight

  • No new shoes on race day, a hundred miles on them will do

  • If you have trained with or without socks then that is how you should race.

  • For all IMer’s, stick a long sleeve in run half way bag as it might get cool out there and you might want it.

  • So many atheltes go out too fast, don’t be a first loop wonder kid. Patience plays a very big role here. IM bikes are made or lost from mile 85-112

  • Half IMer’s, your race begins at mile 8 on the run

  • Full IM- your race begins at mile 18-20 on the run

  • Visualize your best race in your head the day before.

  • Never try anything new on race day!!!!!!!!
