The BodyZen Ironman Experience

BodyZen has been coaching Ironman athletes for almost ten years and has had both professional and age groupers do very well in races around the world including Kona. Our approach is not simple as Ironman is a tough and complex event. We not only provide a detailed training plan and take into account your main three sports but also work in triathlon specific strength training, flexibility work and we also spend a great deal on NHS (nutrition, hydration, supplementation). We also include Lactate Threshold testing and incorporate the results in training zones for your training and racing. Our approach includes mental skills training as well so that your strongest muscle, your mind, will be up to the journey that lies ahead. So sign up
here now and join a very small and select community of athletes, the Ironman athlete.

Race was fantastic. Time may not tell the whole story but probably the best race start to finish I have ever had at any distance. Not only did I PR in overall time, swim and run times but bike course was very difficult and I was able to keep my HR down. It's no Kona slot, but based on my fitness level which is not very high and the amount of training I did, I couldn't have hoped for a better result. I don't think I walked for more than 1 or 2 minutes at any one stretch except for the 4 long steep hill climbs which I intentionally walked. I didn't talk to one person on the run.
Nutrition was spot-on. I had no big lows and felt confident the entire day. Clearly I do better in cooler weather conditions but several people I have spoken to lost 10 lbs or more and 2 guys are still in the medical tent. Race was over and I carried both kids across the line and felt great.
Key factors:
-
No solids. My stomach was walking a fine delicate line all day, but never got to the point where it became a problem
-
Caffeine. made a huge difference whenever I was about to feel down. Helps with focus. I highly recommend it. I don't drink caffeine normally so I am sure it had a greater effect on me than others, but I bet between the gels, the coffee, the vivarin and the coke, I had close to 650-700mg. best part - no stomach reaction whatsoever. Needless to say I am still awake.
-
1:30 AM calorie intake. I would have had a hard time digesting 4 bottles of Ensure at 4AM. this really helped
-
Weather also made a big difference for me. It was cool enough that I was able to get away without taking endurolytes on the run. I think they make me bloated.
-
Great race in general. beautiful course, well organized, late sunset. Florida and Hawaii get dark for me at around mile 13 on the run. And it gets REAL dark. psychologically it is much nicer to finish in the sun.
Thanks again for all the training and advice. I really appreciate it. Great job adjusting to my schedule and life demands. And for your other clients - I definitely think that a 1-2 hr bike before the long runs that we did this year makes a difference.
