3. Gear Review: Finis Freestyler Hand Paddles and Z2 Fins
Power and speed are the elements that will be developed with these great swim toys. The best thing about the Freestyler paddles are they don't over work the shoulder joint but offer just enough resistance to develop better catch/pull strength. The Freestyler's unique shape almost eliminates any cutting into the wrist during the catch phase. Other paddles dig into the wrist at this crucial part of the stroke, but not the Freestyler. They also track better upon entry and during the reach phase of the stroke without any lateral movement. My favorite set is a Drop Set: 10 x 150 with the first 100 of each 150 using the Freestyler and as I finish the 100 I drop the paddles at the wall and sprint the last 50. The same company Finis also loaned me a pair of the Z2 fins.

Now I have mixed feelings on fins but feel for many swimmers they are vital at different times of their training. The Z2's have a perfect blend of just enough propulsion without creating drag and giving too much. It is just the thing swimmers need to improve the kick, which is such a vital component of freestyle swimming. As a lover of free diving I can't wait to try there monofin.

Finis is offering 25% off any of their products to our subscribers when you use the store: www.swimyourbest.com and the coupon code: zen25.

5. PROfile: Dede Griesbauer- Smart, speedy and savvy

PROfile- They say triathlon lends itself to individualistic personalities and to the 'type A' kind of person. Well that could sum up American Professional Dede Griesbuaer. With a 7th overall at Ironman Hawaii in 2007 and a second place at IM Brazil as well she is now on the worldwide triathlon radar as a threat at any race. The former Stanford swimmer actually went the post grad route and finished with a degree from the Wharton School of Business. After a few years working in the real world Dede gave tri's a try and ended up being not too bad at it. Fast forward a few years and she is threat in the water typically exiting in first place. From there it is full throttle as Dede hammers the bike and run until she can go no longer. We caught up with her and got little personal.

1. Favorite race: Ironman Hawaii. The best of the best are there competing and the race never goes as expected. There are always big surprises, good and bad. There is no race like it anywhere..

2. Favorite pre race and post race food: Pre-race; Infinit pre-race hydration formula, 1/2 a bagel, energy bar, and for Ironman, a Red Bull! Post-race....whatever seems like it will settle the best. It's not always easy to find something my stomach will tolerate.

3. If you won IM Hawaii what would you buy yourself: I can't say going out and buying something would be atop my list of things to do. I think I'd rather book a nice, quiet get-away with my husband to celebrate and spend time with him.

4. Favorite TV show I should say something responsible here like "Squawk Box" on CNBC....but the truth is, I am a huge "Grey's Anatomy" fan and while ashamed to admit it, I've been known to watch "The Hills", too. Brain candy.

5. With your background do you keep up with the musings on the US economic situation? Depressing, but yes. I try to keep up as best I can. I don't have nearly the same access to the information that I used to. I really miss my Bloomberg screens!

6. One country do you really want to visit? My husband and I have an ever growing list of places we'd like to go in 'life after triathlon'. For now, vacations seem to be wrapped around Ironman racing, but when we're done, I think we'd both like to go to Greece and to Italy.

7. Best thing about being a Professional Sportswoman? I get to do what I love every single day.
